What method of training do you use?
I believe in training dogs with reward-based methods, incorporating games and a solid understanding of learning science.
I do not want to vaccinate my dog.
Can I still register?
This is fine, but you will need to provide me with a positive Titre test result showing your dog has sufficient antibodies in regards to Parvo, Distempter and Hepatitis.
My dog is not great with other dogs? Can I still attend?
Yes, of course. However, I would see you and your dog in a private session first, with no other dogs around. Then we can discuss the best options for you are your dog. If your dog has a problem working too closely with other dogs we can work around that.
Do you have any experience training dogs with a disability?
Every dog is an individual in many ways and here at Learners on Lead with pride ourselves in training the dog in front of us and not relying on a cookie-cutter training system. In our 15 years plus we have had the privilege of helping dogs with only three limbs, deaf dogs and a dog with one eye. We welcome all dogs into our community.
I am not sure what class is right for me. Can I come along and watch before deciding?
Yes, you can come along to one class without your dogs, if you like. I can also help you decide on what class is best for you and your dog.
How do I register for a class?
Simply fill out either a Puppy Preschool Registration or a General Registration form here on the website. I will then get in touch with you to finalise your enrolment.

Are your classes insured?
Yes, I have Public Liability Insurance. This covers individual and group classes at any location.

How many people are usually in a class?
Participant numbers vary from week to week and are dependent on which class it is. The average number in each class is around six to eight, but this can go up to 12 at times. Numbers vary from week to week, and also what class it is, the average numbers in classes each week are around 6 to 8 in each class but can go up to 12 at times. If there are going to be eight or more participants in any class, there will be two instructors for that class.

What happens if it's raining?
You should keep an eye on the weather radar on days that rain is predicted. I will make announcements on the Learners on Lead Student Community Facebook page if your class is cancelled (no later then 40 minutes prior to each class starting time).
Can my child train our dog?
Yes, we encourage children to be part of the training process. However, any child under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Due to the structure of dog classes, we only allow one child at a time be with each dog.
I have two dogs. Can I bring them both at once?
Our policy is that there is an adult or a minor over 16 years of age, per dog.
I am shift worker, so I cannot commit to coming to weekly classes. Can I still come along sometimes?
Yes, you can. Two of our foundation courses (Pet Dog Obedience Training and Nose Work) are rolling intake. Rolling intake classes have a set curriculum that rolls around every six weeks and you can join any time you like. If you miss a session, that’s okay. You can make it up next time it rolls around. It does not matter how long it takes you to complete a foundation course.
Most of our Level 2 classes are ongoing, so you can come along as and when it suits you best. For Level 2 classes, you purchase a five or ten class pass, which is valid for 12 months.
